Hello, and welcome to my blog! This is the first post I’ve ever written on a blog, so don’t expect too much from it. The main purpose is simply to explain a bit more about who I am and what I intend to do with this blog.
About me
My name is Pedro, I have a degree in mechanical engineering, but currently I work as a developer at a Brazilian bank. I worked for about two years in manufacturing, but I decided to pivot and move into the technology field. I’ve now been working with software development for about two years as well, but I would say my experience is still quite limited.
I didn’t choose a specific academic path in technology, and because of that I believe I still have several gaps in my basic development knowledge. I intend to improve this foundation through some personal projects. And, to keep track of that progress, I decided to create this blog.
About the blog
The idea for this blog was born out of a moment of frustration at the end of 2025. Looking back after graduating, I felt that I hadn’t achieved anything in recent years. I don’t believe that’s actually true, but because I didn’t record anything, it feels like time just passed and there was no progress.
To mitigate this feeling, I decided to start documenting at least a bit of what I’m doing. I have several project ideas that I keep postponing, and I hope that with a certain cadence I’ll be able to see the results of continuous development.
I plan to post something like twice a month, but not specifically about development. I want to record ideas, learnings, and projects I’m working on, but I think that from time to time I may also digress into other topics, like general reflections about work or other interesting subjects that catch my attention.
Project ideas
I have a few projects archived in my mind that I’d like to put into practice someday. I briefly describe them below in the chronological order in which they were conceived:
-
Desktop CNC lathe: the initial idea would be to build a “portable” CNC lathe with the ability to change up to four tools, capable of machining wood, polymers, aluminum, and cast iron. This idea came from the fact that there are many 3D printer and router projects, but I rarely see CNC lathe projects (and at the time I hadn’t seen any commercial ones, especially in Brazil).
-
Desktop injection molding machine: this idea came after seeing the Micro Molder. I didn’t get to see its crowdfunding campaign while it was active, but I found the idea of a desktop injection molding machine whose molds could also be made with resin 3D printing fantastic. Since this already exists commercially, the desire to build one would be purely for learning purposes.
-
Online e-reader: this is the one I intend to start building. The idea is to create a device with an e-ink display not only for reading books, but also for reading emails, articles, news, etc. I haven’t researched alternatives in depth, but today I miss having a device that already presents texts formatted in the same standard as an e-book, but for a broader range of internet content. Nowadays I spend a lot of time reading texts on my phone, but I think it would be much more comfortable on a device with an e-ink display.
-
Off-grid mesh network: this was an idea I had recently, mainly after seeing the news about the internet blackout in Iran. It made me think about how easy it is to shut down the internet. We are very dependent on providers, who can simply cut off access for an entire country at the government’s request. The idea would be to create a decentralized communication network using radio waves to transmit data between devices, mainly to maintain a minimal offline knowledge base. I took a quick look at the Meshtastic project, but I didn’t dive deeply into the topic.
Well, these are the ideas that haven’t left my mind over the past few years (you can see that the first two are from when I was still working in manufacturing). As I’ve already mentioned, the one I’m most inclined to build is the online e-reader. But before starting, I’d like to study a bit more about hardware, something I currently have almost no knowledge of.
I intend to start right from the basics, really from first principles, understanding a bit more about microprocessors and then moving on to assembly, the construction of programming languages, and so on.
Final thoughts
I hope I can stick to my publishing goal, documenting content in a way that’s simple to read and that brings some value to the reader. If you’re following the posts, I’m open to discussing other topics and ideas. Don’t hesitate to send me an email if you’re interested in any subject I address.
Thank you for reading, and see you next time!
